Perfect size to have warm tea for hours. I happen to have a pot that boils water very quickly but it's not designed to serve so I transfer boiling water into this pot vs. heating it on the stove. Iron absorbs the heat and holds it for at least two hours.
This little guy sits on my desk while I work. The pour is perfect - no splashing or dribbles down the spout. It's sort of squat which I like - no accidents likely reaching for it while not really looking. The textured finish is attractive and the handle is engineered very well to stand up on it's own. Hopefully that will last a while.
I have been looking for a quality japanese teapot for some time - very happy to find this one.
My sister loves this teapot! I got it for her as a Christmas gift and we tested it while she was home. The reviews that say it doesn't even make half a cup of tea are lying through their teeth -- this made about 2 1/2 mugfulls of tea. The wrapped handle is a nice touch so there's no problem picking it up when hot. It is quite heavy, but I suppose that's to be expected of cast iron. All in all a great purchase.
I like the Japanese tea-drinking style--to cook the tea on the stove, so obviously, this iron teapot is my choice. It's made of iron outside but china inside with high quality. There's a filter inside so you don't need to worry about the tea leaves. One thing you should remember is just dry it after cleaning.
It's cast iron and the inside is coated with what appears to be some kind of protective enamel. I put the leaves in the filter provided, fill the teapot with hot water, let it brew for the recommended time (less than a minute for high quality Japanese green tea!), remove the filter, pour out a first cup, pour out a second cup, and retained heat is enough to evaporate any drops left inside. It's a zero maintenance kind of gear: use a paper towel to wipe the outside and the inside (if not fully dry), and it's done. And it looks pretty darned good, in my opinion.
Since I am not the best at coming up with souvenir ideas for my parents, I decided to get something that would be fitting of my latest trip. My mother is a huge fan of tea- and cast iron kitchenware so this was a fitting gift. The pot is small- can brew 1-4 cups of tea at a time, but this is perfect for getting the real taste out of the leaves we use. Very pleased, and will be a return shopper if more items fit my personal gifting needs!
